Dear friends,
Today, 11/2/08, was the last day of my exhibition at the Brookline Public Library. Thank you all so very much for your attention and kind words! Here are some of them:

10/3-10/31: Irina Droznina, Photographs, Paintings and Jewelry: Opening reception in Hunneman Hall, Sun 10/12 2-4 PM
"Irina Droznina, amateur photographer, self-taught artist, natural semiprecious gemstone jewelry designer and former professional piano teacher is exhibiting her vibrant, organic work in the Foundation and Emery Cases at the Main Library until October 31. Irina calls the painting portion of her exhibit "The Look" (portraits without models) and feels these images were inspired by her true belief that "The eyes are the mirror of the soul". Even though there were no real models, you, the astute viewer will see "the portrait" of someone who may have existed only in Irina's imagination but who comes to life right in front of your eyes, and is looking at you with hopes of seeing your soul. This unique effect is what Irina cherishes most about her paintings. Reproductions of these paintings are in the Foundation Case and are juxtaposed by color with her many jewelry designs: bracelets, necklaces and earrings. In the Emery Case, her photographs of trees, more jewelry designs and natural semiprecious stones are on view. Trees are the constant source of Irina's inspiration. She believes that the world is to a great extent what we see and how we see it. In her photography (where buildings and the sky are equally inspiring), Irina always tries to find an unusual, different point of view, almost animating a subject not ordinarily considered as possessing a soul, giving Irina's trees and buildings both a life and a soul of their own. She brings these qualities to her jewelry as well, truly believing that natural gemstones carry many healing and protective qualities." TO THE MEMORY OF MY FATHER ALEXANDER DROZNIN My father once dedicated to me the following words: "You always tend to reach out to all that shines!" Yes, that's true. I like things that shine. But I also tend to be attracted to things that hide deep under the surface being not immediately seen from first sight. In my painting and (especially) photography, I always try to attain a "different" point of view... This exhibition is an attempt to reflect at least three of my hobbies: painting, photography and jewelry making. Reproductions of my paintings "THE LOOK" (Portraits without models) along with hand-made natural gemstone jewelry and several photographs are exhibitied in the Foundation case at the Library Main Entrance and in the Emery case in the Main Lobby. I express my gratitude to Julie Falsioni for making this exhibition possible and for her priceless help and advice. A very special thanks goes to Raisa Machevskaya, a very enthusiastic woman whose energy and friendship laid grounds to beginning of this project. Also, I would like to thank my old friend Aron Kofman for his moral support and help with finishing touches including cutting the mattes. And, of course, to my mother, husband and son whose boundless patience allowed me to spend innumerable hours creating my art. Please note, some of the exhibitied jewelry pieces, photographs and reproduction of paintings are potentially for sale, and if you are interested in buying, please call me or send an e-mail.
